Linum Usitatissimum Oil. * (*organic)
The plant belongs to the Linaceae family. It flowers between April and September and the seeds can be collected between July and September when they are ripe. Flax seeds are oval, smooth, shiny and sharp. It is thought that the first crops were located in Ethiopia and Egypt, around six thousand years ago, reaching our continent in pre-Roman times. Flax has always been cultivated for its textile fibres, but also for its linseed oil, much appreciated for its beneficial qualities, and for the flour obtained from its seeds. Later it was discovered that the seeds also have properties that are good for the body and they were widely consumed.
The properties of flaxseeds are many: they are rich in fatty acids, including omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9, which are useful for reducing cholesterol and have great anti-inflammatory properties, but also in minerals and vitamins and can therefore cure intestinal dysfunctions.
From a cosmetic point of view, flaxseed oil applied to the skin has moisturising qualities and gives elasticity and strength to the tissues. It contains lineoleic acid, a substance that helps regulate skin hydration and has an elasticising effect. Linseed oil can be used on both face and body skin and is particularly suitable for areas that tend to have more dehydrated skin, such as elbows and knees.
In addition, flaxseed contains important antioxidants, i.e. substances that prevent and delay tissue ageing, making it an effective remedy for psoriasis, eczema and all skin disorders caused by a diet deficient in vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, which are responsible for dry, thickened and inelastic skin. Flaxseed improves dry skin because it deeply nourishes it, protects it from the sun's rays and improves oxygenation and cell turnover, making it an excellent natural anti-wrinkle remedy.
Finally, flax seeds are a panacea for the hair: rich in minerals and omega 3, these precious seeds are perfect for regenerating all types of hair, particularly damaged, brittle, dry and dull hair. Their use is therefore strongly recommended in summer, on hair sensitised by exposure to the sun and salt or chlorine, or on hair stressed by chemical treatments such as dyeing and perming or by frequent use of hair dryers and straighteners.
